Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) DHS policy is to release survey data to researchers after the main survey report is published, generally within 12 months after the end of fieldwork. Since 1984, MEASURE DHS has collected representative data from more than 200 surveys in over 75 countries. With few limitations these data are available free of charge. |

International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) In collaboration with institutions throughout the world, IFPRI is often involved in the collection of primary data. IFPRI freely distributes as many of these datasets as possible and encourages their use in research and policy analysis. |

IPUMS international (University of Minnesota) IPUMS International archives, integrates and diseeminates population and housing census documentation and microdata for countries worldwide. As of 2007, more than 70 official statistical agencies have endorsed the IPUMS memorandum of understanding and entrusted microdata for almost 200 censuses spanning the years 1960-2005. Anonymized samples and metadata for 80 censuses are currently available to researchers free of charge from the project website. Some 20 samples are being added to the database each year. Funding is provided by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health USA. |

Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (UNICEF) MICS surveys were designed and implemented for assessing the situation of children and women, based on indicators identified following the World Summit for Children. A first round was conducted in 1995. The second round took place in 2000 and the third round in 2005/06. UNICEF seeks to maximize the use of micro data sets by providing available data and documentation on-line. |
