Governance

The International Household Survey Network (IHSN) is an informal network that operates solely on the basis of voluntary contributions - in kind or in cash - from its members.

The IHSN is serviced by a light Secretariat operating in 'virtual' mode. The Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the IHSN work program. It is coordinated by Olivier Dupriez (World Bank, Development Data Group) and its primary functions are to:

  • Prepare IHSN's annual program of activities to be submitted for approval to the Management Group.
  • Coordinate activities, and foster new cooperation.
  • Develop and maintain the IHSN website, and coordinate the maintenance of the underlying databases (information system on planned surveys, survey repository, list of contacts, and others).
  • Develop and implement an advocacy program, and gather relevant materials.
  • Prepare the agenda for the IHSN Management Group meetings. The Secretariat Coordinator attends the Management Group meetings and act as Secretary.
  • Liaise with national survey data producers.

The IHSN Secretariat is working in close collaboration with the PARIS21 Consortium Secretariat, an entity that manages a World Bank financial contribution to the IHSN as a Satellite Program.

A Management Group oversees the Network activities. The Management Group is responsible for setting the IHSN overall policy direction and for communicating this direction to the Secretariat and the IHSN constituency at large. It oversees the IHSN Secretariat work program and ensures that the aims and strategy of the Network are effectively articulated and disseminated.

The Management Group currently comprises representatives of:

  • The United Kingdom Department for International Development (DfID)
    Ms. Frances Harper
  • The International Labor Organization (ILO)
Mr. Rafael Diez de Medina, Chief, Bureau of Statistics
  • The Partnership for Statistics in the 21st Century (PARIS21)
