Joint ADP/AFRISTAT sub-regional training on NADA 3.0 to be held in Bamako, Mali, 14-16 September 2010

The ADP is partnering with AFRISTAT to organize a sub-regional training on NADA 3.0 in Bamako on 14-16 September. Participants from National Statistics Offices from Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal will attend the sessions. All but Cape Verde, Morocco and Mauritania already maintain a NADA on their websites.
This training follows a previous successful joint training on NADA 2.0, organized in 2008.

INSTAT, Mali, is finalizing its microdata dissemination policy (28-29 June 2010)

A national workshop was organized in Bamako, Mali, 28-29 June 2010. More than 40 Participants from the Malian NSO (INSTAT), line ministries, international partners, university and civil society - discussed the draft microdata dissemination policy prepared by INSTAT. The policy materializes INSTAT commitment to make its microdata accessible and used, in line with the national legislation and its strategic plan.

NADA 3.0 Training for Regional IT Specialists, Washington DC - 22 June to 25 June 2010

The IHSN, as part of the implementation of the PARIS21/Accelerated Data Program (ADP),
conducted a 4 day National Data Archive 3.0 (NADA 3.0) training workshop in Washington DC from 22 June to 25.

IHSN Toolkit in SIAP’s ICT Course (Chiba, Japan, 7-10 June 2010)

The IHSN Toolkit was one of the software included in the 1st Group Training Course in Application of Information Management and Related ICT for Official Statistics conducted by the UN Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (SIAP) in Chiba, Japan. This is the second SIAP course to include the Toolkit. The course has 23 participants coming from 14 countries, namely: Armenia, Azerbaijan (2), Cook Islands, Ethiopia (2), India (3), Kosovo, Rwanda (2), Samoa (2), Solomon Islands (2), Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand (2), Uzbekistan (2) and Vietnam.

"Maghreb Workshop on Survey Data Documentation, Archiving and Dissemination Techniques", Gammarth, Tunisia, 26 and 27 May 2010

The "Maghreb Workshop on Survey Data Documentation, Archiving and Dissemination Techniques" was held in Gammarth, Tunisia, on 26 and 27 May 2010. Participants, coming from seven countries (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Mauritania, Palestine and Tunisia), have discussed standards and tools, and best practices available. The technological, organizational and legal constraints faced by their agencies were also discussed, with a special focus on access to survey microdata.

The participants noted:
1- The importance of the documentation, archiving and dissemination of survey data.

Microdata Management Toolkit Training and DDI Production Workshop for Nepal (Nagarkot, 17-21 May 2010)

A Microdata Management Toolkit Training was held in Nagarkot, Nepal from 17 to 21 May 2010. This is the seventh of the series of trainings held for Asia by the ADP. Participants comprised of 22 technically skilled personnel from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and other government agencies. The training included a DDI production workshop where 6 surveys were documented. DDIs of 2 surveys were presented to the Director General and Deputy Directors of the CBS who graced the training on the last day.

Egypt - CAPMAS takes another step in documenting and disseminating their survey metadata

The ADP conducted a monitoring mission to CAPMAS with the aim of reviewing the details of 6 surveys. These have been documented using the Toolkit. The DDIs were thoroughly reviewed and the processes for installing a NADA were carefully reviewed with the web development team. A key training will take place from April 3-15 and involve PCBS with the goal of setting up an Arabic language program by the beginning of June. This will be integrated into their new website which is currently under construction.

The National Institute of Statistics of Bolivia (INE) launches its survey catalog

The National Institute of Statistics of Bolivia (INE) is the executive and technical head organization of the National Statistical Information System of Bolivia. To fulfill its duties in a framework of quality, timeliness accomplishment, transparency and relevance, INE decided to adopt international standards for the documentation, dissemination and preservation of its statistical data and metadata. These strategic actions are implemented in the framework of the National Strategic Plan for Development of Statistics (PENDE - Bolivia).

Nicaragua joins the Accelerated Data Program

The Instituto Nacional de Informacion de Desarollo (INIDE) of Nicaragua joined the Accelerated Data Program on February 2, 2010. The first activity will consist of a national training on data documentation and archiving to take place in Managua in March 2010.

DDI Quality Review Workshop held for Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Philippines (Tagaytay City, 23-27 November 2009)

A DDI Quality Review Workshop was held for the Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Tagaytay City, Philippines from 23 to 27 November 2009. The follow-up workshop was held four months after the Toolkit Training in August 2009. The Division Chiefs sat down with their staff to ensure correct and standardized entries in each Metadata Editor field. Ms. Teresa Peralta, OIC-Director of BLES, proposed for an internal workshop aimed at harmonizing the documentation of BLES surveys.
